Health Related Anxiety

Health-related anxiety, especially for someone fighting an illness, can be incredibly challenging and emotionally draining. It’s a form of anxiety where a person becomes excessively worried or preoccupied with their health, symptoms, or the outcome of their illness, often feeling fear or panic even when there is no immediate threat.

For someone already fighting an illness, this anxiety can be triggered by the uncertainty surrounding their condition, the fear of not knowing what comes next, or worrying about the possibility of things getting worse. Even if a person is receiving treatment, they might still feel a sense of dread about the future.

Often people may experience the following:

  • Constant worry about physical symptoms
  • Fear of death or serious complications
  • Anxiety around multiple tests and appointments
  • Anxiety around waiting for test results
  • Treatment and side effects
  • Isolation and loneliness
  • Cognitive distortions

It's important to recognize that health-related anxiety isn’t just about "thinking too much"—it’s a real, psychological struggle. When someone is fighting an illness, their body is already under stress, and the added weight of anxiety can make coping with the illness itself more difficult.

We will work alongside you to meet you where you are on your health journey and create a personalized treatment approach based on your Individual needs. Our clinicians can help you process through your worries and fears by learning how to use mindfulness-based practices to help relax the physical stress while also learning CBT skills to learn to shift thoughts and look at situations in a new, less frightening way.
